Mercy Volunteer Corps
Become a Mercy Volunteer!
Mercy volunteers are lay people who commit a year or two of service while living a simple lifestyle in a community with other Mercy volunteers. Volunteers work with people who are poor, sick, and uneducated in education, healthcare & social services settings. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds can find a way to honor God through day-to-day ministry with others. Caring for those living with HIV/AIDS, teaching music to children, reaching out to men and women living on the streets, providing life-skills instruction for those in recovery from addiction, developing after-school programs, Mercy volunteers have the opportunity to share their lives with those around them.
Inspired by Catherine McAuley, the foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, they embrace compassionate service, social justice, and spirituality. By opening their hearts to God’s transforming grace, volunteers hope to be instruments of peace and agents of change in the world. The year provides Mercy volunteers with not only the experience of working in a particular ministry, but also with the opportunity to develop deeply meaningful relationships with God, each other, and those with whom they work.
