Consultative Gatherings

Consultative Gatherings Update
Thank you to the 346 sisters and 19 associates who attended the four Spring Consultative Gatherings in the Mid-Atlantic Community this month. Since Sisters’ Life and Governance and the Critical Concerns Committee provided printed feedback and table responses at these meetings which will be collated and analyzed, we will not have an electronic evaluation of the day as in the past. If you want to share any feedback or comments from the gathering, please email one of the members of the leadership team.

Materials Used at Recently Held Spring 2019 Consultative Gatherings
Discussions include a Sisters’ Life and Governance consultation, a presentation by the Critical Concerns Committee, and a Conversation with the Leadership Team. Here is a revised agenda.

Spring Consultative Gatherings will be held the first two Saturdays of March at four different locations throughout the Mid-Atlantic Community:

  • Saturday, March 2:
    – Mercy Center, Dallas, PA
    – Mount Saint Mary Academy, Watchung, NJ
  • Saturday, March 9:
    – Merion Mercy Academy, Merion, PA
    – Our Lady of Mercy Academy, Syosset, NY

To prepare for these meetings:

  • please review this letter from the Institute Leadership Team about a second session of the Sixth Institute Chapter which will be held in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2020, and a letter from the Integrating Sisters’ Life and Governance Core Team(The Institute also previously individually emailed both these letters to each sister.) These two documents include important background information you need to know in order to participate in the second consultation on Sisters’ Life and Governance which will happen during the morning session of our Spring Consultative Gatherings. The second letter summarizes all the responses from sisters across the Institute regarding life and governance, identifies elements that sisters want to retain and implement in the future, and presents the three questions which will be discussed at the Consultative Gatherings.
  • please read these questions on Sisters’ Life and Governance so you can fully participate in the personal reflection, table conversation and group response which will happen at these meetings. If possible, please bring a printed copy of these two documents to the gathering.

Give to Critical Ten at Consultative Gatherings
A Critical Ten collection will be held at the Spring Consultative Gatherings. The Critical Ten Collection provides funds which are matched by Mid-Atlantic Community funds for small grants to ministries in which a Sister of Mercy or a Mercy associate is involved. The focus for this collection will be on immigration. Information concerning the application for the grants will be included in upcoming Mid-Atlantic Messages. If you are not attending an in-person Consultative Gathering and wish to donate to this collection, please send your donation to Mid-Atlantic Community Development Office, c/o Colleen Maher, 515 Montgomery Avenue, Merion, PA 19066, and note "Critical Ten Collection" on the envelope.

Save the Date for Fall 2019
The Fall 2019 Consultative Gathering is being planned for November 8, 9, and 10, 2019, at the Hilton Hotel in Parsippany, New Jersey. This is the same location where our assemblies were held. During that time we will have a theological education presentation, Institute and Community information and processes, and a special liturgy and ritual which recognizes this time of transition in our Journey of Oneness. Mark your calendars for the Fall Gathering, as we look forward to our time together!
