Our Journey…
Our journey to become the Mid-Atlantic Community of the Sisters of Mercy began ten years ago in 1995 when the leadership teams of the regional communities of New York , Brooklyn , and New Jersey decided to form the Tri-Region. Seven years later, these three communities celebrated Mercy Day and a missioning ritual together. Later that same year, the leadership teams of Dallas and Merion decided to explore the possibility of joining the Tri-State discussions. In April, 2005 these five regional communities decided to venture together in a journey to become one community.
Leadership decided to form 16 work groups with representation from each of the five regional communities. At two different consultations held at various locations within these five communities, members took a leaning regarding a new governance model. In the summer of 2005, the
Tri-State Area was renamed the Mid-Atlantic Community to reflect its geographical location.
In July 2006, the Mid-Atlantic Inaugural Assembly of Affairs and Elections was held from Wednesday, July 5, to Tuesday, July 11, in Parsippany, New Jersey. At that time, a new leadership team was elected. On Monday, January 1, 2007, the
Mid-Atlantic Community of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas was officially formed with administrative offices in Merion, PA. Our journey continues…. |
