Sisters In the Mid-Atlantic Community, more than 1,000 Sisters of Mercy have professed lifelong vows of chastity, poverty and obedience, and a fourth vow of service to persons who are poor, sick and uneducated. Throughout the Mid-Atlantic Community, which includes parts of Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey, sisters are engaged in many ministries. Some sisters are sent from the Mid-Atlantic Community to serve in 18 states and two countries in South America. The Sisters of Mercy choose to minister in positions that address the most pressing societal needs as identified by their Critical Concerns. Most sisters live in a community with other Sisters of Mercy. Even though most Sisters of Mercy lead very active lives, prayer and contemplation are a significant part of their day. Sisters of Mercy model the example of Jesus and the compassion of their foundress Catherine McAuley. The Sisters of Mercy are happy to connect with Catholic, single women, ages 20–40, who are interested in joining them in their lifestyle. If you are wondering if God could be calling you to a life of compassionate service in response to God’s love for you, contact Anne Kappler, RSM or Regina Ward, RSM by e-mail or at 610-664-6650. They will be happy to assist you in your discernment of God’s call in your life. NEW!
