Welcome to the website of the Mid-Atlantic Community of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas! The Sisters of Mercy are an international religious community of contemporary Catholic women who help people who are poor, sick, and in need of education, especially women and children. Committed to a life of service, the Sisters of Mercy work prayerfully and peacefully throughout the world changing the lives of others and caring for people in need. In the Mid-Atlantic Community, which encompasses the states of New York, New Jersey, and eastern Pennsylvania, 1,093 sisters and 889 associates continue the work of Catherine McAuley, the foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, by committing their lives and resources to work for systemic change. They focus on empowering women, helping immigrants, practicing anti-racism and non-violence, and caring for Earth and our natural resources.
